Natural Habitat

Gargoyle geckos are found in the southern region of Grande Terre, the main island of New Caledonia. This area has a more arid climate than the rest of the Main Island and the surrounding Islands. As with the other species Rhacodactylus they are semi arboreal. They can be found living on trees, in the scrub vegetation and resting against stone slabs. Like the crested geckos, these geckos are nocturnal, emerging from their day time hides in the evening in the search for food.
