Northern Gecko
Hello and welcome to the Northern Gecko, my website dedicated to my ever growing collection of geckos (it is a very addictive hobby) and my other pets.
My interest in geckos began when I was 15 years old; this was the first time that I had actually seen a gecko apart from seeing them on the TV. This gecko was owned by a young lad I used to baby-sit for and as soon as I saw his baby leopard gecko I was hooked on them. It took a bit of persuading to convince my parents to let me have one, with my Mum even threatening to flush it down the toilet! She finally relented and she soon fell in love with little Joe when I bought him home.
As with many people who keep reptiles I was severely bitten by the bug, one type of geckos was not enough... since getting my original Leos I have branched out into Crested, Gargoyle and Mossy geckos. Each species has its own merits and I get joy out of keeping all of them. Cresties are so sweet looking and are pretty placid with a little handling. Gargoyles look just like miniature dinosaurs and they have a set razor sharp teeth! Mossy geckos are one of the larger species of Rhacs and in my experience the calmest. My boy is very happy to sit and eat a spoon full of food, mind you those long claws of his make it difficult for me to put him back into his tank at times as he uses them to cling onto me!
