Natural Habitat
Crested geckos are native to the southern part of Grand Terre, the large mainland island of New Caledonia, as well as some small surrounding islands.Their natural habitat is humid forest with dense areas of vegetation. The geckos can be found hiding in crevices, leaf litter or under tree bark during the day before emerging at night to hunt in the trees. The forests have humidity levels that range from 70 to 86% and the temperature tends to range from 10ºC to 32ºC (50ºF to 91ºF). This means they can be kept easily in most homes without the need for too much equipment.
